Suspect gunman who shot PS member dies

The gunman who killed the Mulleriyawa Pradeshiya Sabha member Sumudu Rukshan died while in the custody of the Police Special Task Force (STF) at a granite quarry in Korathota, Kaduwela yesterday.

As reported, the suspect had fallen to death from the granite quarry when the STF officers accompanied him to recover a weapon hidden there, which is suspected to be one used to kill the councillor.

Sumudu Rukshan was killed by two unidentified gunmen who came on a motorcycle shot at him at the Bank Junction in Mulleriyawa on August 2.

The deceased gunman, 34-year-old Shiran Thuvan is a resident of Ihala Biyanwila, Kaduwela. He is said to be a close associate of underworld kingpin Angoda Lokka, who was killed in India several years ago.

The suspect had faced an unexpected accident when he attempted to flee from STF custody and fell to his death. He was pronounced dead after being admitted to the Athurugiriya Hospital.

Nawagamuwa Police are conducting further investigations.
