Several houses damaged after STF defuses WW II time bomb

Several houses in Thudugala in Dodangoda were reported partially damaged due to a controlled explosion of an anti-aircraft mortar bomb carried out by the Police Special Task Force (STF) on Thursday (1).

The missile was found during an excavation carried out in a private land in Bombuwala, Nagoda by its owner on August 30 and exploded in a granite quarry in the area. It is suspected that this mortar bomb belongs to the era of World War II. Following the incident, police and STF officers had visited the damaged houses in the area and had assured the residents that a special team will be appointed to look into and assess the damage, police said.

Police STF together with the Kalutara South and Dodangoda police are conducting an investigation into the incident.
