Opened a page to sell lingerie, then stole passwords:

A man arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department for hacking into Facebook accounts of more than 100 women and stealing their photos by threatening them, was ordered to be remanded till September 22 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela yesterday.

The suspect has operated the scam by opening a Facebook page to sell women’s underwear under famous brands.

The Criminal Investigations Department informed the Magistrate that the suspect has misled the young women who placed orders through the Facebook account to buy underwear and has stolen the passwords of their Facebook accounts.

“After stealing the password, the suspect has entered those Facebook accounts and collected the unpublished photos and information contained in them and threatened the women to publish them”, the CID said.

The CID further stated that seven statements have been recorded pertaining to the incident.

After considering the facts into consideration, the Magistrate fixed further inquiries for September 22.
