Two suspects were arrested by Baddegama police for abducting a woman yesterday (14) morning.
The suspects, driver (23) and another person are residents of Baddegama.
They have abducted the victim, an employee at a garment in Dickwella, when she was on her way to work. The suspects have abducted the woman in a vehicle on the highway.
At Baddegama terminal, the suspects have attempted to exit the highway. Police officers on duty have detected that a man who was seated in the back row was covering a woman’s mouth with his hand.
Then the police officers have informed the Baddegama traffic police division about the vehicle. Accordingly police stopped the said vehicle near the Baddegama town for inspection. The man sitting in the back seat has attempted to lock the doors while banding a sharp weapon at the woman’s throat. Police had to open fire, break the doors and take the victim and the suspect out.
The two were admitted to hospital due to cut injuries. The driver and the vehicle was taken into police custody. A personal issue has been the cause of the incident, Police said. Baddegama police is investigating.
