Colombo bourse continued its upward momentum passing 10,000 mark yesterday with healthy turnovers led by index heavy shares with the participation of foreign and local investors.
Thus, All-Share Price Index increased by 158.3 points (+1.6%) to close at 10,072.4 for the day whilst S&P SL20 Index also gained by 72.4 points (+2.3%) to close at 3,252.2.
John Keells Holdings, Sampath Bank, Commercial Bank,, Lanka IOC and Aitken Spence Hatton National Bank and Sanasa Development Bank remained as the top positive contributors to the ASPI during the day. Further, the broader market’s total turnover stood at Rs. 5,330.8 mn against the 12-month average daily turnover of Rs. 4,211.3 mn, whilst the volume traded for the day was 188,977.9k against the 12-month average daily volume of 203,388.3k. Capital Goods and Banks mostly contributed to yesterday’s turnover.
The top turnover generators for yesterday were Expolanka Holdings Rs. 1,086.6 mn (-0.3%), John Keells Holdings Rs. 598.3 mn (+8.6%), Lanka IOC Rs.401.8 mn (-1.9%), Sampath Bank Rs. 319.3 mn (+11.8%) and ACL Cables Rs. 296.2 mn (+10.7%). Foreigners recorded a net inflow of Rs. 673.7 mn yesterday. Foreign purchases stood at Rs. 830.6 mn whilst total foreign sales amounted to Rs.156.9 mn. Top foreign buying counters EXPO LKR. 945.3 mn, BALA LKR. 18.7 mn, HAYL LKR. 2.7 mn, DIPD LKR. 2.5 mn, RICH LKR. 1.8 mn and LOFC LKR. 1.0 mn whilst top foreign selling counters were JKH LKR. (100.0) mn, LION LKR. (20.5) mn, CCS LKR. (18.0) mn, MELS LKR. (13.6) mn, LIOC LKR. (10.9) mn and KHL LKR. (8.8) mn. Further, off-board transactions were witnessed in Expolanka Holdings (Rs.920.0 mn), Sampath Bank (Rs. 113.5 mn), Richard Pieris (Rs. 93.0 mn), Lion Brewery (Rs. 48.3 mn) and John Keells Holdings (Rs. 42.2 mn) yesterday.
Additionally, Ceylon Printers, Serendib Land, HDFC, Sanasa Development Bank and Softlogic Finance were the top price gainers yesterday whilst Myland, Senkadagala Finance, Tess Agro (Non-Voting), Ramboda Falls and Union Bank were the top price losers. Further, SMB Leasing (Non-Voting), HNB Finance, Browns Investments, Amana Bank and Industrial Asphalts were amongst the most actively traded stocks yesterday.
