The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) yesterday approved the Ceylon Electricity Board’s (CEB) request to implement power cuts of two hours and 20 minutes from September 23 to 25.
The approval was given considering the unavailability of Old Laxapana Stage 1, lack of fuel availability at West Coast and due to sudden increase in demand, the PUCSL said. Accordingly, the power supply for A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L,P,Q,R,S,T,U,V and W areas will be interrupted for one hour during daytime and one hour and 20minutes during night.
The Chairman of the PUCSL Janaka Rathnayake on Wednesday declined to approve the CEB’s request to extend the one hour and 20 minutes power cuts to two hours and 20 minutes due to the CEB’s failure to present justifications for the extension.
