KMC to increase water tariff

The Kandy Municipal Council (KMC) has decided to increase the tariff on water supply by 25 percent with effect from October 15. Accordingly, the tariff will be increased upto 55 per cent from the current rate of 30 percent.

According to the Deputy Mayor of KMC Ilahi Abdheen, this decision has been taken with the unanimous consent of a special general meeting in order to cover the monthly loss of Rs.15 million incurred by the council through the supply of water to the urban dwellers.The tariff increase will not be implemented on religious places, the Deputy Mayor said.
