An audit inquiry has revealed that a Development Officer (DO) and a watcher attached to two Government schools in the Hatton Educational Zone have obtained Rs.18,345 as distress allowance, which they are not entitled to.
A Circular issued by the Secretary to the Ministry of Education in 2005 indicates that only the Principals and Teachers are entitled to this allowance for their service in remote areas.
The Development Officer is attached to Ganesha Tamil College in Hatton and the watcher to Minuwandeniya College in Hatton.The DO has obtained Rs.19,839 from January this year while the watcher has obtained Rs.163,306 from March 2017.Accordingly, the Government Audit Division has inquired from the Secretary to the Ministry of Education on the course of action to be taken against these employees who have violated the said ircular.
