Police probe to arrest gang who robbed cinnamon dealer

The Police have started investigations to arrest a gang of four who phoned a cinnamon dealer from Meetiyagoda to Bandegama stating that a stock of cinnamon was for sale and robbed him of over Rs.1.2 million after throwing chili powder on his face.

The Baddegama Police said that the robbery had taken place on Saturday evening and a complaint from the businessman involved had been received the next day (25).This 53-year-old cinnamon businessman, a resident at Manapita, Meetiyagoda had been robbed at an isolated place on Narangahahena in Baddegama.

“The cinnamon businessman had gone to Baddegama to buy a stock of cinnamon by motorbike after receiving the telephone call,” Police said. They also said that the businessman was given directions by phone on how to reach the particular destination by a person.

“Four persons who were hiding at an isolated spot on the road had blocked the pathway that the motorbike was proceeding with poles and waylaid the businessman of Rs.1,234,000 after throwing chilli powder on his face and fled the area,” Police said.

Police investigations are underway to identify the robbers through the number used for the mobile phone call.
