Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on Sunday night arrested three individuals who attempted to leave for Italy using fake visas.
The officers had also found forged ‘Permesso di Soggiorno’ or residence permit cards in their possession.
They are residents of Ambalangoda, Maradankeni and Mullaitivu, police said. According to the CID, these three individuals are victims of a human trafficking network being operated in the country. Investigations are being carried out by the police to arrest the traffickers, police said.
Meanwhile, the CID on Tuesday evening arrested another Sri Lankan passenger deported from Qatar while attempting to leave for Italy with a fake Italian visa.
He is a resident of the Chenkalady area.
The CID produced these suspects before the Negombo Magistrate’s Courts yesterday.
