The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday reported facts before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court that an investigation has been initiated to determine whether the son and the relatives of the late notorious underworld leader Mohamed Naufer alias ‘Potta Naufer earn money and assets through illegal activities and drug trafficking.
The CID also stated that this investigation was launched based on the information received by the Illegal Assets Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department that his son and relatives were utilising unlimited properties worth millions of rupees.
The CID further stated that 26-year old Mohommed Nawfer Niyas Nifran, son of Potta Nawfer had purchased a house worth Rs.150 million in the Hulftsdorp area.
The CID also pointed out that investigation has been launched to determine “How did he earn so much wealth at such a young age?”.
The Criminal Investigation Department further stated that an investigation has also been initiated to determine whether Potta Naufer’s son had this property even before death of Naufer.
