Main suspect in bowser hijacking arrested

The main suspect in the alleged hijacking of a bowser with 6,500 litres of fuel in the Hanthana area for extortion was arrested yesterday (07) by the Kandy Police’s Criminal Investigation Department while hiding in a hotel in the Hanthana area.

On September 24, the bowser was hijacked by four persons while it was transporting a stock of fuel needed for the generator of a telephone transmission tower in the Hantana area. Two hours after the incident, three suspects were arrested by the Police but the main suspect had fled and was in hiding.

Police said that there are drug related charges against the suspect. Two weeks after the incident, the Police succeeded in arresting the suspect who was absconding.

Police said the suspect who is a resident of Bogambara was remanded till October 14 after being produced in Court. Further investigations are being conducted under the direction of Chief Inspector of Police M. G. S. Bandara, OIC of the Kandy Police Crimes Division.
