Sri Lanka women’s cricket team returned home yesterday evening after ending up as runners-up in the Asia Cup T20 tournament which was held at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Bangladesh.

“We lost to India in the final but finishing as runners-up is a great achievement at this stage”, said skipper Chamari Athapaththu at the Bandaranaike International Airport.

“My team made a good team effort to qualify for the final and unfortunately we missed out on a great chance of winning our maiden title”, said Chamari.

“We fought back in the semi-final against Pakistan while we recorded a thrilling one-run victory, we couldn’t maintain that same momentum in the final.

“However, the way our team performed at this Asia Cup is a good boost for the next series including the World Cup and we must thank our head coach Hashan Tillakaratne, the supporting staff, and SLC for providing us tremendous support”, added the skipper.

Sri Lanka Cricket women’s cricket development and administrative officer Manuja Kariyapperuma, officials of SLC, and the Sports Ministry warmly welcomed the team on arrival.
