Marawila Police fired at a car that was driving in defiance of orders to stop, in the Marawila area, at around 5.30 am on Sunday.

Acting on information received by the officers of the anti-corruption unit of the Marawila Police station, the police officers had signalled the car to stop. The police officers then shot at the rear wheel of the car that sped away despite their orders.

The car had run off the road hitting a nearby electric pole as the driver had lost control.

The police said a large number of bottles of moonshine were found in the vehicle and the driver of the car was arrested. He is scheduled to be produced before the Marawila Magistrate’s Court.
