Probe to find whether cows were killed by leopard

Horagolla National Park Warden W.A.C. Wijesinghe yesterday said a comprehensive investigation is being carried out to determine whether two cows tied up in a land in Alawala Athaudakanda village were killed by a leopard.

Two cows belonging to a farmer Rohana Wijitha Kumara, a resident of Alawala Athaudakanda village, were grazing in a land near the Athaudakanda public cemetery,  and were killed by a leopard on Tuesday afternoon and the meat of one cow was eaten.

Investigations into this incident are continuing under the supervision of Director General of Wildlife Department Chandana Suriyabandara and Western Province Wildlife Assistant Director W.A.Weheragama. He said that according to the ongoing investigations, within a few days it will be possible to reveal whether the cows were killed by a fishing cat or a leopard.
