Colombo Additional Magistrate Keminda Perera ordered on Wednesday (11) the release of the chief incumbent of the Kadawatha Ranmuthugala Punyalankara Viharaya, on a surety bail of Rs.300,000, who was arrested and produced before court, by the Child Protection Authority in connection with an incident of molesting several under-aged boys who were living at the Sri Wimalawansa Children’s Home in Ranmuthugala, Kadawatha.
The Child Protection Authority producing the suspect in court stated that this temple is adjacent to the children’shome and that the monk had got a broker to bring the children to the temple at night and then molested them.
The Child Protection Authority told court that the inquiry was conducted and the arrest of the monk was made based on allegations by the children, during an investigation conducted by them regarding children’s homes. The Child Protection Authority also told court that facts have been confirmed that the children had been taken out through a window from the hostel at about ten in the night and that the broker who had brought the children to the monk had fled the Children’s Home. According to the Child Protection Authority, details have been revealed that the monk had abused the children and then given them cash as well as mobile phones and paid the broker Rs.1,000.
They also told the court that investigations are being carried out to arrest the broker.
