The importation of eggs through international tenders has got delayed as the Animal Production and Health Department has still not responded to a request for necessary specifications, State Trading (General) Corporation Chairman Asiri Walisundara stated.
He told media following the calling for tenders two suitable importers has been decided.
He said the request to the Department of Animal Production and Health for necessary specifications had been sent three days back, but the STC was yet to receive a reply.
He explained the need to import eggs was owing to the burden caused to consumers following the rapid increase in the price of eggs.
