Police to enforce law against vehicle owners displaying flash lights

Colombo City Traffic Police Director Superintendent of Police Nalin Pushpakumara stated that he instructed the Traffic Police officers working in Colombo city to enforce the law on vehicles travelling and displaying blue and red flashing lights on the front windows of their vehicles in  such a way as to make it seem like VIP’s are in the vehicles.

He also said that travelling with such lights is an offense according to the law.The Superintendent of Police said that on his orders, the Borella Police seized four Defenders and two cars which were moving in a single line from Battaramulla towards Colombo with blue and red flashing light bulbs on.

The traffic section of the Borella Police had taken these vehicles into Police custody and had warned the drivers of these vehicles and released them on the promise of removing the light bulbs.

A senior officer of the Traffic Police Headquarters stated that there is no law to install any other lights on vehicles apart from the lights that are part of the vehicle at the time it is imported and registered. The official said that displaying any document other than the revenue license on the windshield is also prohibited according to the law.
