Two remanded over Rambukkana double homicide

Kegalle Magistrate Vasana Navaratne yesterday ordered to remand two suspects who were arrested in connection with the double murder of youths in Hurimaluwa, Rambukkana until January 23. Police Divisional Crimes Investigation Unit of   Kegalle arrested these two suspects in connection with the incident where two bodies were found buried behind a house in Hurimaluwa, Rambukkana, on Sunday (15). The arrested are 30 and 29 year old Mohammad Razik Mohammad Rikaz of Kiringadeniya, Mawanella and Sajith Madhumal Karunarathne of Kohilegedara, Kurunegala.

“They were arrested in the Mawanella and Welioya Police areas,” Police said. Police have also found a motorbike owned by one of the deceased in the possession of one suspect.According to Police, the bodies found are said to be of two youths from the Mawanella area, who have gone missing and they were exhumed by the Police in the presence of the Kegalle Magistrate on January 12.

However, the Police are yet to reveal the identity of these bodies, Police said.

The families of the deceased, 28 year-old Mohammad Anwar Mohammad Arfan of Mosque Road, Kiringadeniya and 28-year-old Mohammad Iqbal Mohammad Azar of Keraminiya Watta, Mawanella had lodged complaints with the Mawanella Police on November 26 stating that these two boys have gone missing. The Magistrate has also ordered conducting a DNA test into the bodies, as they were not identified by the family members. The Kegalle Police Divisional Crimes Investigation Unit is investigating.
