Wildlife Dept. earns Rs.7.7 Mn through fines last year

The Department of Wildlife has earned an amount of Rs. 7.7 million in year 2022 through fines. This amount has been recovered by filing lawsuits against various individuals for damage to forests and wildlife.

Also, the total revenue earned by the Wildlife Department by November 2022 was Rs.1,421 million with most of this money earned through license fees.

These facts were revealed at a discussion held by Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Minister Mahinda Amaraweera with Wildlife Department officials. Minister Amaraweera advised to start programmes to attract foreign tourists to the Yala, Wilpattu and Wasgamuwa National Parks this year.

The Minister also said that since large numbers of foreign tourists are returning to the country these days, measures should be taken to open additional ticket counters at the national parks and to avoid delays.
