Colombo men’s and women’s teams clinched the championship at the Vaaj Junior Premier league level 1 Basketball tournament which concluded at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium On Sunday.

At the finals Colombo men’s team defeated Jaffna team by 109-78 points to take the title while Colombo women’s team was able to beat Sri Lanka Schools team by 66-34 points to take the women’s level I title to complete a double. Earlier Sri Lanka Schools beat Sri Lanka Universities at the women’s level 1 semi final while Colombo beat Gampaha at the other semi final of the women’s league 1 to enter the final.

The tournament conducted by the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation (SLBF) while 28 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams participated at this event throughout the day. The matches up to semi finals were held at the Air Force Indoor courts in Colombo 07 while from the semi finals it was held at the Sugathadasda Indoor Stadium.

The under 23 Basketball players were involved in this tournament which gave a big boost to get match exposure, said Chandana Liyanage the Secretary of the SLBF. Former President of the SLBF Sarath Ekanayake who was the former Chief Minister of Central Province and Celonee Fernando the Managing Director of Vaaj Group of Companies the title sponsor of the Junior Basketball league were the chief guests.
