PC who accepted Rs.20,000 bribe remanded in Elpitiya

Elpitiya Police have arrested a Constable attached to the same police station for accepting a bribe of Rs.20,000 from a woman on Wednesday (18).

It was reported that the suspected officer had obtained this money not to take legal action against the said woman who had ridden a motorbike without a valid revenue licence and with two pillion riders on board, where one of them had not been wearing a helmet too.

Sergeant Adhikari who was on traffic duty at Atakohota area along the Elpitiya - Aluthgama road on January 15 had stopped this motorbike and when he realized that the rider possess no valid documents to the motorbike, he had forcibly asked for money from her to let her free.

Accordingly, the woman, from Nanayakkara Mawatha in Elpitiya had later complained to the ASP of Elpitiya Ramindu Silva about this incident on the next day.

Following an investigation based on this complaint, police had arrested the suspect and he was produced before court. The Elpitiya Magistrate has remanded him till January 24.
