A larger number of attendants and support staff at the Colombo National Hospital staged a protest campaign against its Deputy Director and Government Medical Officers’ Forum President (GMOF) Dr. Rukshan Bellana yesterday.
They expressed their objection to a statement that had been made by Dr. Bellana which said that some employees of the hospital are addicted to narcotic drugs and committing thefts inside hospital wards and the car park.
Complaints had been received on numerous occasions about vehicle parts being stolen and the patients losing their belongings, Bellana had said.
The protest campaign was held in front of the office of the deputy director. However, the police had intervened to control the situation and take the deputy director out of the hospital premises unharmed, it was reported.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry taking into consideration the situation reported at the National Hospital, has called the Deputy Director Dr. Bellana to the ministry as a temporary measure.
