Trinity College under 20 footballers who had a flying start in the Sri Lanka Schools Football tournament by being the group champions beat Isipathana College by 5 goals to nil in the pre-quarter-finals played at Pallekelle. It was a good game where Trinitians who are under the watchful eyes of head coach Sanoj Srinath and assistant coach Renosh Muralidaren gave a good display and the goals were scored by Yevan Hulangamuwa (two), and one each came from Dev Karavita, Dinusha Periers and Uvan Vithanage and the game was refereed by P.D.C. Ridmal.
Today in the quarter finals Trinity College will meet Maliyadewa Model School in Kurunagala, this game should be an intresting one as both schools are packed with top talented footballers and a good game is expected.
Kingswood – Sri Rahula drawn
The two day inter school under 19 inter school division II cricket match between Kingswood College and Sri Rahula College ended in a draw over here in Kandy. Kingswoodians batting first made 216 in 55.2 overs with Kavija Gamage 53, and Abdul Hameem 68 and in bowling R. Kumara bowled well to take 3 for 35 and in reply Rahulians were able to score two runs more than the kingswoodians 218 in 59 overs, G. Jayasuriya 47, R. Abeyasekara 40 and in bowling Kenula Pihilianga bowled to a line and length to pocket 6 for 36.
Kingswood College 1st I innings – 216 all out in 55.2 overs (Abdul Hakeem 68, Kavija Gamage 53, R. Kumara 3 for 35, K. Eranda 4 for 32) and 75 for 1 in 12 overs (Aadil Sheriff 23 not out and Kavija Gamage 41)
Sri Rahula College 1st innings 218 all out in 59 overs (G. Gardhiwasam 72, G. Jayasuriya 47, R. Abeyasekara 40, Kenula Pihilianga 6 for 36, Kavija Gamage 2 for 34, Abdul Hakeem 2 for 54).
Cricket umpire and coach Chandrasena no more
Lalith Ranjan Chandrasena, a former Cricketer of St. Andrews’ College, Gampola and a senior cricket coach and Umpire passed away in his seventies. He helped Kandy cricket in a big way in coaching and umpiring. He gave a big hand for Nugawela Central in coaching and also was with the Kandy Youth CC, Kandy District Cricket Association and Central Province Umpires Association for a long time and gave his best. He was one time Kandy Youth Cricket Club team manger. His body is lying at Nuwara Malshalawa and the burial will take place on Saturday at Mahaiyawa cemetery.
