Kandy SC’s dynamic place-kicker Tharinda Ratwatte stole the limelight with a brilliant individual performance during their SLR Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament first-round match against Police SC played at the Police Park in Colombo.
The veteran back division player emerged as the top points scorer for the fifth week of the competition having contributed a total of 17 points as the defending champions pulled off a hard-fought 22-12 victory to remain unbeaten in the tournament. Ratwatte scored Kandy SC’s opening try and added the extra points as the visitors went into half time with a 12-5 advantage before dominating the second half with a converted try and a penalty to complete a memorable outing.
Meanwhile, Navy SC scrum half Harsha Maduranga (15 points) was in tremendous form scoring three superb tries during their high-scoring 41-30 victory against Army SC at Welisara.
The other significant contribution during the week came from Air Force SC fly half Nuwan Perera, who accumulated a total of 14 points through one try, three conversions and one penalty in their match against Army SC.
