Panadura Division Criminal Investigation Bureau Officers have arrested the person who shot and injured a businessman while he was driving his car in Gonapola on the Horana-Colombo main road last Monday.
He had been arrested along with the firearm he used for the shooting and seven ammunitions.
Investigation teams had earlier received information, which suggested that the shooting was due to a personal dispute involving a woman.
The arrested suspect is an owner of a vehicle service station in Vavulugala, Horana.
Investigations have revealed that the owner of the vehicle service station has had an affair with a woman and now the woman has left him and is in a relationship with the businessman who shot at in Gonapola.
The 36-year-old businessman, a resident of Keselwatta, Panadura was admitted to hospital after the shooting. Police said that the bullet hit him in the neck and he had to undergo minor surgery.
While driving his car near the Kumbuna temple, a person on a motorbike had overtaken him and asked him to stop saying there was something wrong with his rear wheel.
When the businessman had got down to see what the problem was, the motorcyclist had pulled out a weapon and fired at him and fled, Police said.
