Father gets 48 years’ RI for raping daughter

A father who pleaded guilty for raping his own daughter and forced her to have a child was sentenced 48 years of Rigorous Imprisonment by Kegalle High Court Judge Jayaki De Alwis yesterday.

The convict, Uggalgoda Gedara Rathnayake alias Thushara, a father of three was also ordered to pay a compensation of Rs.500,000 to the victim.

It was said in court that the victim girl resided with her parents and younger brother and sister. The father is a labourer. When the girl was 13 years old, the mother had left for Kuwait as a domestic worker.

The father had raped his daughter several times.
