Authors, publishers complain to CID over piracy, racketeers

Twenty five authors and publishers collectively complained to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday, asking to take action under the Intellectual Property

Act against those involved in illegally making PDF copies of printed books and circulating them in social media platforms. The complaint also gives details on the people involved in this racket and their social media accounts.

Observing that these PDF copies are being circulated among a large number of people daily, they have pointed out that this racket is a blow to the sales of printed books. They have pointed out that the sales of books have declined sharply due to the prevailing economic crisis, and that their prices have also risen considerably. The racketeers have been circulating the PDF versions of printed books using Telegram, WhatsApp, Facebook Groups and websites without permission.
