The Ocean in Marine Drive Colombo re-opened last week adding several new features including their first ever Rooftop Lounge, LAVISTA.
“The management is looking to invest Rs. 750 million to add a new wing which will add forty rooms in addition and a swimming pool,” said Managing Director, Rasawimana Holdings and The Ocean Colombo, Wasantha Silva.
He said that the group involved in catering business diversified to the leisure sector by acquiring The Ocean Hotel in the late 1990’s. The hotel was upgraded and refurbished offering forty nine Guest Rooms, comprising forty Standard Rooms, six Family Rooms, two Deluxe Rooms and one Suite Studio.
During the pandemic the hotel was not open for guests, it was once again given a face lift and reopened last month. “Today the Colombo city life needs quality nightlife and this is the reason we invested in and opened LAVISTA Rooftop Lounge overlooking the sea that could accommodate hundred guests both indoor and outdoor.”
Wasantha said, they hired special trained staff for this and offered special VIP rooms as well. “One of the unique features of LAVISA is that we have a new and first of its kind ‘12 to 12’ package for two people which includes overnight accommodation breakfast from 12 a.m. to 12 p.m. all for Rs. 12,000.”
Wasantha Silva said, they are confident that the Sri Lankan leisure sector is picking up and will invest Rs. 750 million to build a forty room hotel tower with a roof top swimming pool and link it to the present hotel.
“We have already purchased the adjoining land for this investment and construction will commence at the end of March.”
A family owned venture, the proposed hotel would be built from the profits and earning sans any borrowings.
Currently the Ocean offers a twenty five cover “THE ATRIUM” banquet hall and woulod have a large banquet hall in the new facility.” A new Gymnasium and a Spa too would be introduced.
All Rooms will be Air-Conditioned with Free Wi-Fi access, Satellite TV, In-Room Tea/Coffee Making Facility, Mini Bar and several other luxury amenities.
“We hope to launch a mage promotion drive to market The Ocean Colombo’s LAVISTA pub,” said, Manager, Priyantha Maharamba. (SS)
