The report of the special investigation carried out by the Department of Motor Traffic over the fatal accident in Radella, Nuwara Eliya which took place on January 20 was handed over to the Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Dr. Bandula Gunawardene yesterday.
The investigation has revealed many important facts relating to the accident and also the details of the condition of the vehicles involved in the accident.
It also includes 16 recommendations to prevent the recurrence of such accidents.A group of officers from the department including motor vehicle inspector R. M. A. P. K. M. Rajatheva was present on this occasion which took place at the ministry.
Seven including five persons of the same family were killed and 53 persons including 41 students of Thurstan College, Colombo who were on a trip to Nuwara Eliya sustained injuries in this accident which took place on the Nuwara Eliya–Radella shortcut road when the bus which the students were travelling collided with a van and a three-wheeler.
