The Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and the Independent Television Networks (ITN) will begin telecasting award winning Sinhala movies that have made a lasting impact on Sri Lankan cinemagoers, from this week with a half an hour discussion on the acting, evolution of the film for its overall success and technical elements.
Speaking at a press conference at the Media Ministry yesterday, Mass Media Minister Dr.Bandula Gunawardena said that Sri Lanka Rupavhani Corporation and the Independent Television Networks will telecast Sinhala films that have won accolades nationally and internationally from Friday and Saturday respectively with an objective of attracting more fans to the local cinema industry.
Accordingly,the SLRC will telecast a Sinhala film every Friday at 9.30 p.m with half an hour discussion on the relevant film from February 17.
This discussion will also focus on the film, experiences of artistes involved and other stakeholders who made contributions to the film,” the Minister said.
The programme will commence with the screening of Sandeshaya film directed by veteran filmmaker Dr. Lester James Peries on Rupavahini on February 17.
“Sandeshaya will mark an important milestone of the Sinhala cinema through which a number of veteran artistes including monarch of Sinhala moviedom, Gamini Fonseka entered the industry,” he said.
The Minister was of the view this type of discussion before the screening of the film will elevate the knowledge of the fans about the film , its theme and the technical elements.
The ITN will also start this programme on February 18 with the screening of award winning Sinhala movie, Rekawa at 1.00 p.m. with a half an hour discussion on the film.“Rekawa is the first film entirely filmed outside the studio, he said.
The Minister invited film producers and each and everyone who contributed for the development of Sinhala cinema to make this programme a success. “Such efforts will help develop the Sinhala cinema”, he said.
SLRC Chairman W.B.Ganegala said that the Sinhala cinema faced a challenge with the beginning of televisions in the country. He said that the SLRC will help promote Sinhala Cinema. ITN Chairman Sudarshana Gunawardana also spoke. Ministry Secretary and Lake House Chairman Anusha Palpita, Media advisor Mohan Samaranayake were present.
