Kandy SC felicitates skipper Damith

Kandy Sports Club skipper Damith Dissanayke who gave a good service for the club for twelve long years and captained the side this season to win the league, will be migrating to Canada today. A few days back after the committee meeting he was presented with a plaque for the good work he did. All players and officials were present were happy.

This time they will be having their 150th AGM, and are hoping to have a grand function on this day to celebrate one hundred and fifty years. Kandy Sports Club which was established 149 years ago in the country’s hill capital have won the league title 22 times in history.

They lived up to their reputation and finished the season of the league rugby tournament by being unbeaten. The team has created a unique record unparalleled in the annals of local rugby by winning the league since 1994.

This club has been the most successful club in the Sri Lanka Rugby Championship, winning 22 league titles in the last twenty eight years during the period between 1994 to 2022, which is the most wins by any club since the expanded competition commenced in 1950. The years they won are 1994, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2002,2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018,2019, 2020, and 2022.

Kandy’s top players will be in action

Top Men’s and Women’s teams will take part in the 43rd junior men’s and2nd women’s hockey national championship, which will be played in Kandy at the Peradeniya University Grounds from March 23 to 26. which will kick-start the nationals for the year 2022.

The two tournaments will be conducted by the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation and organized by Kandy District Hockey Association headed by R. Maheswaran. Himesh Tenakoon will be the chief guest and Murad Amirdeen guest of honour. Thanks hockey action returns. Every hockey lover in Kandy wishes all the players preparing for the prestigious Nationa lChampionships the very best.

These two tournaments will be the stepping stone to the budding careers of several aspiring men and women hockey players in the country.

There are immensely talented players waiting to give off their best and this Championship is crucial in terms of increasing the talent for the future.

According to Kandy District Hockey Association president R. Maheswaran all arrangements have been finalized for the 43rd Junior National Hockey Championship 2022 and second junior women’s national championship which is conducted by the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation and organized by Kandy District Hockey Association.

Himesh Tennakoon will be the chief guest and Murad Amirdeen guest of honour.
