Retired SI charged for peddling cannabis in Balangoda

A retired Sub-Inspector was arrested for the possession of 886 grams of cannabis by a team of Balangoda Police officers yesterday.

The Balangoda Police said that this retired sub-inspector was arrested at the Balangoda Hospital premises.

A resident of Anandamethgama, Balangoda, this retired sub-inspector has served at the Police Headquarters since the end of 2013. According to information received by the Police, this retired sub-inspector has stayed in the hospital premises to give this cannabis to a certain person for sale.

The Police have received information that this retired police officer has gone to several places in Balangoda town to find the person to sell cannabis earlier. Investigations have revealed that he had brought this stock of cannabis into the hospital premises to give it to a person he met there. This suspected retired sub-inspector was presented before the Balangoda Magistrate’s Court yesterday. According to the Police, the court acquitted him after pleading guilty and charged a fine of Rs.10,000.
