Ananda Sastralaya Kotte and St. John’s College Nugegoda come out for their 23rd annual ‘Big Match’ ‘Battle of Sri Jayawardanapura cricket match at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo on April 4 and 5.
St. John’s College is at a distinct advantage as they have beaten Ananda Sastralaya in an under-19 division III tournament clash early this year. They are packed with experienced players and should be able to repeat this result in their favour once again. They have won seven matches in their tournament and have lost only once.
They are led by Obhasha Thotawatta who is a fourth year coloursman. He has scored 348 runs and is an off spin bowler.
The others with experience are Piumal Dewranga the vice captain who is a fifth year player and Chathumka Dewmin who is a sixth year player. These three players are experienced enough to take them to victory once again. On the other hand Ananda Sastralaya have won one match, lost two and drawn six matches in the division III schools tournament this season.
They are led by Janitha Charuranga who has scored heavily. His highest score is 82 against President’s College Maharagama whom they beat. They also have a reliable batsman in Charuka Eshan who scored 118 runs in their game against Wadduwa MMC whom they beat by four wickets. However, Ananda Sastralaya can come up with good performances in this important game.
