Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe has invited International Cricket Council Chairman Greg Barclay to visit Sri Lanka and confirm the story reported by several social media sites and SL newspapers publishing that the ICC has or is going to appoint a three-member committee to assess the much-talked-about political interference against Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). The minister has mentioned in his letter that he possesses the facts in detail for this discussion.
"The Ministry of Sports shall always ensure that all national sports federations must be independent and maintain certain basic standards, norms and procedures with regards to their functions, which should conform to the high principles and objectives laid down by the laws of the country and their international counterparts," the Sports Minister said.
The minister has informed the ICC Chairman regarding the prevailing special sports laws of the country, including the Anti-Doping and Anti-Corruption laws. He added that he has maintained the highest standards and deployed legal powers to make general and special directions in writing to all sports federations as to the exercise, discharge, and performance of their duties.
In conclusion, he requested an official meeting to be arranged between ICC officials and Ministry officials to create an environment that will ensure the independence of Sri Lanka Cricket as per national and international laws.
