Ramesh and Prabath bowl Sri Lanka to an innings win

Off spinner Ramesh Mendis had a superb spell to finish with 5 for 64 while leg spinner Prabath Jayasuriya took two wickets to become fastest Sri Lankan bowler to reach 50 test wickets as Sri Lanka recorded an innings and ten run victory over Ireland in the second Test match to clinch 2-0 series win at the Galle International cricket Stadium yesterday.

It was very good display by Sri Lankan bowlers and fielders while they were able to all out Irish team before the tea break to seal the victory and win the series in grand style. Ireland who scored 492 all out in the first innings while Sri Lanka made bold reply to score 704 for 3 wickets declared with 212 runs lead. However Ireland 54 for 2 wickets continued from fourth day bowled out for 202 and Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne and his team celebrated the 100th Sri Lanka victory in grand style.

Harry Tector was the only successful Irish batsman made a fighting knock of 85 in 189 balls struck 8 fours and 3 sixes while skipper Andy Balbirnie scored 46. Tector who came to bat at number four was 9 th out and that prize wicket was taken by paceman Asitha Fernando who took two wickets in two consecutive balls of the last over to finish the game. Tector was clean bowled by Asitha Fernando followed by last man Ben White in the same way. Asitha Fernando played ae good supporting role by taking 3 for 30.

The second innings hero undoubtedly off spinner Ramesh Mendis who finished with 5 for 64 in his 27 overs spell while leg spinner Prabath Jayasuriya took the wicket of Paul Stirling to complete the milestone of fastest test 50 wickets with Kusal Mendis taking the catch at extra cover to give Prabath Jayasuriya his 50 th wicket .

In fact Jayasuriya's 50 th test wicket is joint second fastest wickets in world and his effort in seven test matches gave big boost to his test career.

Kusal Mendis who stroked 245 runs was named man of the series while Prabath Jayasuriya who took match bag of seven wickets was adjudged man of the match and received his trophy from Sri Lanka Cricket Head of Administration Aruna de Silva

Kusal Mendis the man of the series said his batting display gave much needed boost while he always played for the team and really enjoyed playing long innings to build up the innings. Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne, Nishan Madushka and Angelo Matthews gave good support and we played really well to outclass them said Mendis.
