Officers of the Police Special Task Force arrested a person along with a stack of foreign cigarettes worth around 0.5 million rupees, which was illegally imported to Sri Lanka, depriving the government of custom duties. Suspect was arrested after a raid by Police Special Task Force near the P.D. Sirisena Stadium on last Tuesday (23).
There, a 39-year-old resident of Meeraniya Street, Colombo 12, who was in possession of 5,000 illegal Manchester Lights cigarettes imported into Sri Lanka without paying the duty, was arrested, and he was handed over to the Maligawatta Police for further investigations.
The tax money lost by the government due to illegally imported cigarettes has increased a lot and it is said that Special Task Forces are constantly carrying out operations to raid illegally imported foreign fags.
This raid was done according to a complaint received by the Special Task Force Gonahena Camp.
