Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday ordered the remand of Medamulana Madanage Bruno Divakara, the owner of the YouTube channel ‘SL-VLOG’ until June 7.
The CID arrested the ‘SL VLOG’ owner last Wednesday for gathering people, aiding and abetting the suspect Natasha Edirisuriya, who is currently in remand prison, and releasing the video clip on the Internet when she made a statement insulting the Buddhist religion in a comedy program called “Modabhimana”.
The CID told the court that the suspect was arrested the day before yesterday by the Narahenpita Computer Crime Investigation Division, Colombo, under Section 3-2 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political. Rights (ICCPR) Act, No. 56 of 2007, and the Penal Code. CID officials requested the court to remand the suspect saying that further investigations will be conducted regarding the suspect.
Attorney Tishya Weragoda, who appeared for the suspect, said that the suspect has not committed an offense under the International Covenant on Civil and Political. Rights (ICCPR) Act, No. 56 of 2007. Therefore, he requested court to grant bail to the suspect, but the Magistrate refused the request and ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody.The Fort Magistrate also ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to submit a compilation of all the evidence against the suspect to court the next day.The CID claimed that the investigation revealed that the suspect had supported Jayani Natasha Edirisuriya, who was remanded regarding the issuance of a statement insulting the Buddhist philosophy and culture. The suspect insulted Buddhism, King Suddhodhana, and others in a deliberate manner in a comedy sketch. The CID said that it was later released to the internet through a YouTube channel belonging to the suspect.
