Minister of State for Finance Mr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya stated that import restrictions will be removed on around three hundred to four hundred goods that are currently subject to import restrictions.
The minister made this statement at a press brief on Ruwanwella area this morning (02 June).
The minister said that due to the increase in the supply compared to the demand of dollars, the import restrictions will be relaxed based on the strength of the dollar.
However, the minister also said that there is no intention to remove import restrictions on locally produced (competitive) goods that affect the local economy.
