Dumindu wins badminton Bronze in Kazakhstan

Dumindu Abeywickrama the 20 year old world ranked shutter won the bronze medal yesterday at the Kazakhstan International Badminton future series in Shimkent, Kazakhstan.

Dumindu the promising player from Royal College Colombo came to the semi finals by beating Akash Singh of India 21/17, 19/21, 21/15 at qaurter finals. He defeated Lan Gabriel Vargas of Philippines (19/21 21/9 21/9 ) in pre quarters. Dumindu lost to Dmitry Panarin of Kazakhstan who is the world rank 100 at the semi finals in straight sets 4/21 , 11/2.

In fact Dumindu Abeywickrama who already in the National senior Badminton pool is involved with special training in Indonesia and his task is to improve his world ranking. Presently he is world rank 197. His present training in Jakarta is highly successful and expected to play more world ranking tournaments to earn more ranking points. Dumindu has a dream to represent Olympics in future and his aim is to take part more tournaments this year.
