Tamil National Front Leader, MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam who was arrested by the police at his Queen’s road residence in Colombo 7 on
several charges including obstructing the police officers’ duties was released on bail after being produced before the Killinochchi Magistrate yesterday. He was released with a surety of Rs.500,000.
The MP was arrested by a group of Killinochchi Maradankeni police officers on the charge of obstructing the duties of the police officers at the Thakkayadi ground in Wadamarachchi in Jaffna. The MP and a group of people held a meeting at a school in Killinochchi where the GCE ordinary level Examination was being held. Police objected to it and the MP in question had tried to snatch the identity cards of the police officers. Two persons including a woman who were aiding and abetting the MP were also arrested by the police and they were remanded upon being produced before Killinochchi magistrate’s court.
