Six students arrested over assault in Kandy

The police have arrested six students of the same school yesterday (8) in connection with the incident of assaulting a

student of a leading school in Katugastota, who was sitting for the GCE OL Examination this year.

The police said that the six students who were arrested were also appearing for the same examination.

The student who was injured in the attack which took place at the school on June 6 afternoon, when the mathematics question paper related to the GCE Ordinary Level examination was heldhad been admitted to the Kandy National Hospital for treatment.

The attack had been carried out by a group of students studying in the same class as the injured student and because the examination was already underway, the police had delayed taking them

into custody until the examination was completed.

Yesterday afternoon (8) when the GCE OL examination ended, heavy police protection had been deployed in front of the school. The student, who was assaulted and hospitalised, had left the hospital of his own accord and sat for the examination the next day.

Two more students involved in the incident of assault are to be arrested. The Katugastota police are investigating the incident.
