Aeroflot Co-Pilot collapses in Katunayake hotel

A co-pilot of the Russian airline, Aeroflot had collapsed at the hotel where he was staying and died on Thursday night, Katunayake Police said.

The co-pilot, Dovgaienko Valerii (63), died after falling into trench of a hotel located in Peellawatte, Katunayake, at about 10 pm. Later, police officers from Katunayake had taken the pilot to the Negombo General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of death is suspected to be a heart attack, and the postmortem examination was scheduled to be held yesterday (16) at the Negombo General Hospital.

He was to have been the co-pilot of the Aeroflot flight, scheduled to take off from the Katunayake Airport at 12.30 pm yesterday for Moscow, Russia.

A team of police officers of Katunayake are conducting further investigations into this matter.
