Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said that the village-level mechanism built by SLPP is very strong and no one can dismantle this strong network.
The Minister said that he is therefore ready to support a leader nominated by the party in any upcoming election, joining with the country-building programme.
The Minister said this while participating in the SLPP Kelaniya Bala Mandalaya meeting held yesterday.
“We started politics with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. But we didn’t have a political party to engage in politics later. That is why the Pohottuwa was created by collecting the five forces. In the beginning, this party was formed by gathering 20 members from one Grama Niladhari division. Therefore, no one can topple the Pohottuwa,” he said.
“We did not do politics with President Ranil Wickremesinghe. We are the ones who did politics against him. However, we were looking for a leader who can establish law and order when the peace and law of the country was unstable. We were also looking for a leader who can maintain the state’s stability and face challenges without any fear. That’s why we decided to support Ranil Wickremesinghe to be the President. Comparing the country a year ago and today, we can be happy that our decision was correct,” Minister Ranatunga said.
“Regardless of whoever formed whatever organizations, the networks formed by the SLPP at the village level are still strong today. No one can topple them. Therefore, any leader nominated by the Pohottuwa will be brought to power at any future election and we will give strength to implement the programme that will build the country,” the Minister said.
