Negotiations to re-activate Japan’s LRT project

The Cabinet has approved the proposal presented by the President to reactivate negotiations with the diplomatic mission in Colombo and preparean appropriate time frame for reaching the relevant agreement in order to be able to start the proposed Light Rail Transit Project (LRT) sponsored by the Japanese Government, Media, Transport and Highways Minister and Cabinet Media Spokesman Dr. Bandula Gunawardena said.

He stated this at the press conference to announce Cabinet decisions held at the Government Information Department yesterday (5). After studying all the facts about starting the project, the Urban Development Authority proposed to begin this project, but on the instructions received from the previous President, by stopping the start of this project in the middle, there were some diplomatic issues due to the sudden stop, the Minister stated that President Ranil Wickremesinghe seeks to strengthen closer international relations by getting this project back. According to this, the country will be able to get about three billion in foreign exchange, he said.
