Curfew lifted

The curfew imposed in response to the COVID-19 spread was completely lifted effective from yesterday (June 28), the President’s Media Division announced.

A curfew from 12.00 midnight to 4.00am was imposed from June 13.

In the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Government imposed a 24 hour curfew island wide to curb its spread. Later when the situation improved, the Government lifted the curfew in stages.

Further relaxation of the curfew was done in areas identified as low-risk. Since May 11, the government introduced a mechanism to recommence the civilian life and economic activities with public given permission to start going to workplace by maintaining social distancing amidst limited curfew restrictions.
