Thera hacked to death in Induruwa

Kosgoda police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of the body of the Chief Prelate of the Galkanda Sri Wijaya Dhamma Pirivena, Ven. Yatiyana Buddhananda Thera (79), yesterday morning.

His body was found lying on the floor of his chamber at the Galkanda Sri Wijaya Dhamma Pirivena in Induruwa. The body had cut and stab wounds, police said.

Police suspect that the Ven. Thera has been hacked to death allegedly by an organized group trying to rob the temple, police said.

Kosgoda Police OIC CI Nalaka Jayaweera told the media that they had sent the body for a post mortem.

He said, “The motive has not been established and the police investigations are pending.” The police are yet to any arrest suspects, he added.
