Bourse declines alongside dividend announcements – Acuity Stockbrokers

The Bourse ended the week on a negative note this week with ASPI decreasing by 260.78 points (or 3.14%) to close at 8,054.77 points, while the S&P SL20 Index also decreased by 85.37 points (or 3.12%) to close at 2,647.67 points.

Turnover & Market Capitalization

Browns Investments was the highest contributor to the week’s turnover value, contributing LKR 1.37Bn or 19.58% of total turnover value. Expolanka followed suit, accounting for 12.40% of turnover (value of LKR 0.87Bn) while Windforce contributed LKR 0.47Bn to account for 6.75% of the week’s turnover. The total turnover value amounted to LKR 6.98Bn (cf. last week’s value of LKR 9.90Bn), while the daily average turnover value amounted to LKR 1.40Bn (-29.45% W-o-W) compared to last week’s average of LKR 1.98Bn. Market capitalization meanwhile, decreased by 3.69% W-o-W (or LKR 136.98Bn) to LKR 3,573.42Bn cf. LKR 3,710.40Bn last week.

Liquidity (Value & Volume)

Food Beverage & Tobacco Industry Group was the highest contributor to the week’s total turnover value, accounting for 28.42% (or LKR 1.98Bn) of market turnover. Industry Group’s turnover was driven primarily by Browns Investments which accounted for 68.88% of the sector’s total turnover. Transportation Group meanwhile accounted for 12.42% of the total turnover value while Capital Goods Group contributed 9.54% to the weekly turnover.

The Food Beverage & Tobacco Industry Group dominated the market in terms of share volume, accounting for 33.36% (or 155.77Mn shares) of total volume, with a value contribution of LKR 1.98Bn. The Diversified Financials Industry Group followed suit, adding 29.89% to the total volume (139.60Mn shares) while the Utilities Group contributed 7.42% (34.66Mn shares) to the weekly share volume.
