Lankan teen attends Model UN confab

The perspective of Sri Lankan youth on the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine was delivered by 19-year-old Nasheetha Rizwan at the Arab Youth International Model United Nations (AYIMUN) conference in Dubai last week.

The four-day international conference was held under the theme ‘Russia–Ukraine Crisis’. The

AYIMUN is a recognized United Nations Simulation Conference offering a prestigious opportunity for the youth to foster dialogue on creating change and building peace worldwide.

This simulated General Assembly is the deliberative organ of the United Nations where critical international issues are discussed and meaningful solutions to problems in various countries are presented, found and discussed.

Nasheetha, a past pupil of Muslim Ladies College in Colombo, was the youngest delegate at the summit and she was the only Sri Lankan delegate to attend the international conference.

“I was really proud to have earned this golden opportunity to represent my motherland at this conference and it was an amazing and exciting experience to be on this international platform where we came up with possible suitable solutions to a range of current issues in different nations,” Nasheetha told the Daily News.
