More than 200 killed in Ethiopia ethnic attack

ETHIOPIA: Witnesses in Ethiopia said Sunday that more than 200 ethnic Amhara have been killed in an attack in the country's Oromia region and are blaming a rebel group, which denies it.

It is one of the deadliest such attacks in recent memory as ethnic tensions continue in Africa's second most populous country.

Duterte’s daughter sworn in as Philippines Vice President

THE PHILIPPINES:Sara Duterte-Carpio, daughter of outgoing Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, was sworn in as the country's 15th vice president on Sunday, calling for national unity following a divisive election campaign.

Duterte-Carpio, 44, was the running mate of Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who also won in the May 9 elections and will be sworn in as the country's president on June 30, when their six-year term begins.- YAHOO NEWS

Landslide in Colombia leaves 8 dead

COLOMBIA: At least eight people, including three children, were killed in a landslide near the municipality of Paez in Colombia's Cauca Department, local authorities confirmed on Sunday.

The landslide was caused by heavy rains that have been affecting much of the country this season.

Rescue agencies are working to remove debris and extract the victims' remains.- XINHUA

Spain, Germany battle wildfires

SPAIN: irefighters in Spain and Germany struggled to contain wildfires on Sunday amid an unusual heat wave in Western Europe for this time of year.

The worst damage in Spain has been in the northwest province of Zamora, where over 30,000 hectares (74,000 acres) have been consumed, regional authorities said, while German officials said that residents of three villages near Berlin were ordered to leave their homes because of an approaching wildfire Sunday. - NDTV
